Let’s keep this one lake for what it was intended to be-- a NatueaL Environment Lake for those of us who enjoy this type of atmosphere; and for those that need and desire closer proximity to the water, Let them choose Lakeshores Where classifications are Less restrictive. Lind Variance Application for Cookes Lake, Candor Twp. , Re : Gentlemen; We are unable to attend this Hearing, but wish to express some concerns we have about the above matter, letter at the Hearing. You may read this We, too, are owners of property on-Cook's Lake, for you to understand the situation fully, we present the following informa tion: In order Cook's Lake is classified as a Natural Environment Lake; the Lake has very'little development on it;: it has two cabins other than the Lind's trailer on it;: 'both cabins meet the minimum 200 ft. setback requirement.One of these cabins is ours. We purchased this property several years ago because v/e were Impressed with its wilder:ness atzmosphere. In recent years we built a log cabin there and were eager to meet Shoreline requirements in order to protect and preserve this atmosphere. It is our understanding that Mr. Lind was given a pefimit to place his trailer on his property prior to doing so;- and, therefore, should have known what the setback requirement was. It appears that his setback is about 50 feet short of the minimum requirement. This probably looks like a fairly minor matter. Hov\?ever, v/e are concerned about the precedent this matt.erasets. Other trailer or cabin owners v/ho may wish to place their trailers on the lake may look at Mr. Lind's trailer and say, "We're back as far as the Lind's trailer, so it must be O.K." Soon we could have a situation where only the two original cabins meet the minimum setback. Here we have an opportunity to put into practice some regu­ lations tliat will protect a lake like each lake should have been protected decades ago. We have only a handful of lakes in Otter Tall County where we can still do this. In our opinion, it is not g©iftg to cause Mr. Lind a great deal of hardship and money to set back his trailer another 50 feet. It isn't that he doesn't have enough acreage to do so; and his trailer isn't permanently affixed at present like a cabin half-built would be.
