Ellenson
Exception
to
's request for a variance
The Ellensons are good neighbors. The Haines do not wish to
interfere with the Ellenson's desire to expand or with their
continuing efforts to improve their dwellings. The Ellensons have
done much to improve the appearance and value of their property.
The Haines do ask that the Ellenson's expansion plans use other
alternatives and not build directly on the Haines/Ellenson
property line. The two cabins on Ellenson's property have plenty
of room between for expansion without having to build close to a
property line. The Haines ask that the Ellenson expansion plans
make use of the ample space on the Ellenson's four lots to make
any additions or changes and respect the 10 foot setback. There
is plenty of room without encroaching on the neighbors
The Haines cabin is hemmed in by cabins on the two neighboring
properties. Both neighboring cabins are built almost on the
property lines common with the Haines. This proposed variance
would continue to bottle in the Haines property.
The proposed Ellenson cabin addition will increase the size of
their main cabin which is on the property line by about 50%. The
effect of the addition will be that of building a 10 to 15 foot
high fence 16 to 20 feet in length. It would reduce the
desirability and therefore the value of the Haines property.
The measurements presented in the Ellensons' variance petition
are based on speculation and not on actual surveying techniques.
The distance from the proposed addition to the property line is
even closer than stated. It will be within a few inches of the
property line. Because of the angled property line, the addition
gets closer to the property line as the addition gets bigger.
Do not penalize a neighbor by changing the rules now. There is no
reason to grant a variance to encroach on the Haines' property.
Ample space is available elsewhere for expansion on the
Ellensons' property.

Because the lots were so small, most cottages have been sited

a hallway connecting to a new bedroom and bath out back away from
the lake. The addition should continue back along our West lot

We have had a pump house on the West side of our cottage extend

We can remove it when the addition is completed which will make
more space between lots 13 & 14 and improve the looks of our
building to our neighbor.
