Motion
Motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Robert Schwartz and carried with Craig Anderson abstaining,
to approve the proposed 20’ by 20’ addition with the condition that the addition must have a hip style roof
similar to the roof on the existing dwelling and with the coridition that both the existing structure and the
proposed addition must be gutter in a manner that will direct the runoff away from the lake. Hardship is a
substandard lot of record and the terrain features of the applicants’ lot. A permit had previously been received
for the construction of the proposed addition. It was originally thought that a bluff, did not affect the. applicants’
property. At the time the<footing where inspected^it was determined that 6’ of the proposed addition was
affected by the bluff while the remaining 14’ of the addition was not affected by the bluff. It was noted that
there is very little erosion in this immediate area and that it has been and can be control.

cottage at least 10’ from each side lot line and at least 65’ from the ordinary high water level (lake).
After additional discussion and consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by Cecil
Femling and unanimously carried, to deny the installation of a portion of the proposed drain field under
the easement road. After addition consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by
George Walter and unanimously carried, to approve a 5’ variance from the required side lot line setback
of 10’ for the placement of a holding tank 5’ from the side lot line. Hardship is a substandard lot of
record. The granting of the above variances will provide the applicant with a reasonable use of his
property.
I Daniel and Betty Lareau - Approved
Daniel and Betty Lareau, Deer Creek, MN, requested a variance of 30’ from the required top of bluff
setback of 30’, a variance for excavation in the bluff impact zone and a variance of approximately 42’
from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the construction of a 20’ by 20’ addition
to an existing structure located approximately 0’ from the top of the bluff and approximately 58’ from the
ordinary high water level. The property is described as Lots 6 and 7, Leafside, East Leaf Lake in Leaf
Lake Township. Schan Sorkness, Attorney, appeared along with the applicants at the public hearing.
The audience was polled with Dale Oppegard speaking in favor of the variance application. After
consideration and discussion, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Robert Schwartz and
carried with Craig Anderson abstaining, to approve the proposed 20’ by 20’ addition with the condition
that the addition must have a hip style roof similar to the roof on the existing dwelling and with the
condition that both the existing structure and the proposed addition must be gutter in a manner that will
direct the runoff away from the lake. Hardship is a substandard lot of record and the terrain features of
the applicants’ lot. A permit had previously been received for the construction of the proposed addition.
It was originally thought that a bluff did not affect the applicants’ property. At the time the footing where
inspected it was determined that 6’ of the proposed addition was affected by the bluff while the
remaining 14’ of the addition was not affected by the bluff. It was noted that there is very little erosion
in this immediate area and that it has been and can be control.
Steve and Ruth Lorshbough - Approved
Steve and Ruth Lorshbough and Don Stenstrom, Rothsay, MN, requested the following: “Variance
Request #1 - We request that Don Stenstrom be allowed to sell less than 5 acres from his 51.13 acres
to Steve & Ruth Lorshbough. The proposed 9,563-sq. ft. would be permanently attached to form one
parcel with Lot 7 Stenstrom Beach, First Addition on Long Lake. Variance Request #2 - Requests that
Elizabeth Township be granted a variance, which would allow Steve & Ruth Lorshbough to locate a
sewage, lift station near the end of a minimal travel, dead-end road right-of-way. Variance #3 -
Request a variance of 7 feet from the normal 10 foot setback to allow construction of a 30’ by 50’ pole
building on the property listed on variance request #1 above. Variance request #4 - Request a
variance of 5 feet from the normal lot line setback of 10 feet to construct a soil absorption area.
Variance request #5 - Request a variance of 2’ from normal 10’ non-residence building setback to allow
construction of a soil absorption area. The absorption area would be 8 ft from the non-dwelling 30’ by
50’ proposed pole building owned by Steve & Ruth listed in Variance Request #3 above. Variance

construction would be done in same lakeside footprint as present cabin occupies. The current footprint
is 47’ from the O.H.W.L. on the east corner and 39’ on the west corner.” The property is described as
Lot 7, Stenstrom Beach First Addition and part of Government Lots 2 and 3, Section 12 of Elizabeth
