shore impact zone setback of 50' for an addition to an existing structure 34' from the ordinary high water

Michael Alan Geyer - Approved
Michael Alan Geyer, Inver Grove Heights, MN, requested a variance of 4' from the required side lot line setback
of 1 O' for the construction of a 12' by 24' screened porch to an existing structure 6' from the side lot line,
The applicant will be removing an existing 1 O' by 18' covered porch. The property is described as Lot 2, Art's
North Shore, Marion Lake in Rush Lake Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against
the request. After consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by John Everts and
unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 4' from the required side lot line setback of 10' for the
construction of an approximate 12' by 27' screened porch to an existing structure 6' from the side lot line.
The applicant will be removing a 10' by 18’ structure. The new structure cannot exceed 28' in length. It
should be noted that the new addition will be further back from the ordinary high water level than the
structure that will be removed and that the addition will be no closer to the side lot line than the existing
structure. The granting of the variance will allow for an improvement to the applicant's lot.

PARCEL #35-000-17-0163-001
We wish to add on to our house on West Leaf Lake,
house with hope of living in it when we retired,
August.
We bought this
which is this
We found out that we cannot add on unless we ask for a change of
variance on set backs.
As you can see in the drawing we want to add on the north side of
our house to have a master bedroom and bath. We also want to put
up a garage, as you can see in the drawing so we can put our boats
and cars in for the winter.
The house is find to live in for a few weeks, but we need the extra
room when we settle in Minnesota with all our furniture from our
house in Illinois which we will be closing on in August of this
year.
We do not want to put a second floor on this house, because we want
to keep the house in same type of conformity with our neighbors.
This house and our neighbors were built at the same time back in
the 40's.
The thought of having to make a two story home out of it - would
not only take away from the conformity of the surrounding homes,
but also would be costly to us to remove the roof and build on
second floor.
We hope you grant us the set back variance so we can build as soon
as possible, as we will not have any place to store our furniture
or belongings after August 30, 1994.
Thank you,
Mike and Janet Harkins
