Discussion -Utility Counties' Meeting
Assessor, Bob Moe, reported on a recent utility counties meeting and provided the Coalition of
Utility Counties' response to proposed legislation to exempt utilities from personal property tax for
the County Board's review. Commissioner Lindquist noted that Investor Owned Utilities, (IOU)
receive a tax credit and suggested that fact be included in the letter opposing this legislation.
Lengthy discussion followed regarding the varying amount of impact on county budgets and the
coalition's opposition to S.F. 947 and H.F. 847 to exempt personal property tax on a specific peak
shaving plant facility proposed for construction in Martin County.
